Interview & Andre Soto

Where are you from Originally?

I was born and raised in Huancayo, Peru then moved to California when I was 13 years old.

How does your background affect your work?

I think my background affects a great part of my work, having grown up in a different country like Peru is humbling because you get to see things that you’d probably never see in San Francisco or LA, it has definitely provided me with an open perspective and better appreciation for storytelling.

What is the single most important outcome of an image when creating a campaign or editorial story for a client?

The most important element is to always tell a story, use everything and everyone available to make it happen.

In your free time, what kind of pictures do you like to shoot and which ones do you avoid?

In my free time, I enjoy shooting street photography and film, I don’t really try to avoid taking pictures except when maybe I’m not allowed to.

To date what do you think is your most memorable shot and why?

My most memorable shot I can think of would be “City Love” a photo about a couple in love, it was the cover shot for one of my short fashion films “A blue alien” one of my favorites for sure!
